Sakura and the Hanami tradition

Apr 11, 2011 by     No Comments    Posted under: ALL post, Places, Situations

Hanami (lit. “flower viewing”) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers, “flower” in this case almost always meaning cherry blossoms or ume blossoms. From the end of March to early May, sakura bloom all over Japan. The blossom forecast is announced each year by the weather bureau, and is watched carefully by those planning hanami as the blossoms only last a week or two. In modern-day Japan, hanami mostly consists of having an outdoor party beneath the sakura during daytime or at night. Hanami at night is called yozakura ( literally night sakura). In many places such as Ueno Park temporary paper lanterns are hung for the purpose of yozakura.

Viernes 11 de Marzo a las 14:45 hs.

Mar 14, 2011 by     No Comments    Posted under: ALL post, Situations

I will write in Spanish since most of my dear people are spanish speakers and they want to know what happened that fatal day.

Typical situations 2: Sayonara Circle

Feb 7, 2011 by     No Comments    Posted under: ALL post, Situations

If you stand at any train station in Japan around 20 pm you will notice people standing in circle, and you will think “Oh they are praying?”
No no, just friends saying goodbye. I personal found it very interesting and sometimes a bit annoying and I call it “The sayonara Circle”.

The personal area is a sensitive issue in Japan and at the time greeting is limited to bow their heads and say “mata ne!” or see ya! but in my personal opinion people want to express a bit more, especially when saying goodbye but the rules of social coexistence, forbid this manner and Japanese people limits their feelings to just see each other with a smile in their face.
